Hope Street

Backstory

I grew up up on a street called E. Hope Street. I always thought that was the coolest street name - Hope Street. This song is about growing up in that home on Hope Street.

Lyrics

Bright spinning carousel
Who would've known back then
That'd be a metaphor for my whole life
Bright glowing carnival
Became a vacant field
I tried to keep the lights alive inside

But they were moving on
Time kept marching on
I kept holding on
But that's long gone

My dreams all slept
Like marionettes
Til the pull of strings
Wakes them up inside of me

Mom and Dad packed up all our things
And headed further east
To the house of their dreams
But this was the place
Where I grew up dreaming
And I still visit here
Now and again, when I sleep

They were moving on
Time keeps marching on
I keep holding on
But that's long gone

My dreams all slept
Like marionettes
Til the pull of strings
Wakes them up inside of me

My friends all left
Good times and regrets
Til the pull, the pull of this street
Calls them back, back to me

Stained glass window
Warm summer rains
The scent of oranges
On March nights
Lights radiate

The stairs
The yard
The dogs
The swings
Broken bones and hearts
But we mended things

This is home
Home to me
And it will always be
And you are home
Home to me
And you will always be
