This Quiet House

Backstory

“This Quiet House was inspired by Kent and Carol Blake. They were blissfully married for 71 years and stayed madly in love til the end. They were kind and loving to each other and raised six wonderful children. At the end of their lives, Kent was very ill, but he held on until Carol passed first, and then he let go and joined her a few days later. I performed this song live, for the first time, at their joint funeral. Kent and Carol and their family are featured in the art for this song.”

Lyrics

This quiet house
We sit alone
Reminiscing days gone by you turn the music on
We go dancing ourselves ‘round, this old floor again
And the memory’s deep
The song lifts me high,
and it carries me on

Oh we already saved all our graces
in pictures and pages, and papers that faded
And oh, these angels we raised
they’re all chasing the stars in their eyes
So, it’s just this old house me and you

A ray of sun
on this winter morn
With the weight of days gone by
The clock keeps tickin on
We go rattling down, this old road with our

Tired feet
We got some tattered clothes.
You grab my hand, you pull me up,
you resurrect these bones
We go walking ourselves down
This old road again

When the river was deep
and mountain too high
you would carry me on.

When the river is deep
and the mountain too high
I will carry you on.

I saw it in a picture show
If we’re not busy living then we’re busy dyin’
I can’t sweep you off your feet anymore,
but that won’t stop me from tryin

Oh, these angels we raised
they went straight from our hearts to our hands
into the wide open blue
And oh, these angels we raised
they went chasing the stars in their eyes
but they always come back, for you.
