The Turnaround

Backstory

“This song is dedicated to and about my wife Emily. The tiger is adversity, the bulls are her brothers, the jackals are her friends and the wolves are our children. Emily is also an amazing dancer and she absolutely loves it. The term ‘The Turnaround’ comes from the teachings of Byron Katie, which have been very helpful in my life. and were introduced to me by Emily years ago.”

Lyrics

True story on a weekday night
I saw you dancing in the flickering light
I, I really like the way you move
And all this time you never did take that easy out
Won't take that easy route
Taught me that turn around

You would stare down the tiger
You would run with the bulls
Laughing loud with the jackals
While you raise these wolves
You just understand the meaning
There’s just something in your eyes
You could out-dance the devil
But your heart is pure. Your heart is pure and wild

Tell me now
We're standing in a seaside town
Heels over head upside down
Showed me that turnaround
All this time you never would take that easy road
You take on that heavy load
You've got that heart of gold

You would stare down the tiger
You would run with the bulls
Laughing loud with the jackals
While you raise these wolves
You just understand the meaning
There's just something in your eyes
You could out-dance the devil
Cuz your heart is pure, your heart is pure and wild.

True story on a weekend night
I'm talking to you by a flickering light
I, I really like the way you move me

You would stare down the tiger
You would run with the bulls
Laughing loud with the jackals
While you tame these wolves
You just understand the meaning
There’s just something in your eyes
You could out-dance the devil
Cuz your heart is pure, your heart is pure and wild.
